When Can I Sleep After Botox?

Can I Sleep After Botox?

Botox is a favorite in the anti-aging world, delivering profound results to achieve a rejuvenated look. But, what about that aftercare?

You might be wondering, “When can I sleep after Botox? What should and shouldn’t I do after my appointment?” So, keep reading to find out!

When Is the Best Time to Receive Botox?

Timing is everything when it comes to any cosmetic procedure including Botox, fillers, and other non-surgical treatments.

While there’s not necessarily a wrong or right time to receive Botox injections, it’s important to factor in the events of your day before booking that appointment.

Ideally, schedule a Botox session on a less busy day in the morning or early afternoon. Botox doesn’t require downtime, but many injectors would prefer it if you relaxed and rested for the rest of your day after an appointment or at the very least took it slow and easy.

Doing this gives the Botox time to settle into place correctly and also to allow potential swelling or bruising to dissipate.

When Can I Sleep After Botox?

This is a great question, and one that is frequently asked. To stay safe and prevent wandering or improperly settled product, avoid laying down for at least four hours after your appointment. This gives the Botox time to settle the way it’s supposed to.

Don’t worry, though, you’re still gonna be allowed to sleep that night! This is why scheduling your Botox appointment in the correct time frame matters. If your bedtime is 9:00 pm, schedule your appointment so that you’re done no later than 5:00 pm so that you can go to bed on time without issue.

Sleeping after Botox isn’t as complicated as you’d think even with some guidelines in place. You want to avoid any pressure on the injection site, so this means you’re going to have to give up stomach or side sleeping for a night or two. Here are some things you should practice for better results:

  • Ditch headbands / head wraps to prevent pressure on the injection site.
  • Sleep on clean, fresh bedding to avoid irritation and keep bad bacteria away from your injection site.
  • Sleep on your back to avoid pressure.
  • Use pillows around your body to prevent stomach or side sleeping.

What Are Some Other Things I Shouldn’t Do After Botox?

If there are certain rules for sleeping, albeit temporary, what other things should you avoid? There aren’t a lot of limitations after Botox injections, however there are some steps you can take to ensure the best results possible. Avoid these things after your appointment for optimal recovery and Botox results:

  • Heavy or irritating facial products
  • Heat exposure including hot showers, tanning beds, and saunas
  • Drinking alcohol before or after your appointment
  • Touching, rubbing, or tugging on your face
  • Sun exposure (use sunscreen with a high SPF if you can’t)
  • Makeup
  • Exercise
  • Other skin treatments such as facials

Typically, you’ll only have to avoid these things for a day or two before you’re in the clear and can resume these activities. Your injector will let you know what you should and shouldn’t do before and after Botox during your consultation.

By taking these simple steps, you’re ensuring better, longer Botox results and minimal side effects. However, if you do experience side effects, they usually clear up in a day.
